My workout did not check itself off
- Apple Health. In Heartwood, open the "More" menu on Today, then Settings, and look at Apple Health. If it says "Off for Heartwood", open the Health app, tap your picture, then Apps, then Heartwood, and allow workouts. Then tap "Check again".
- Long enough. A session counts when it is at least as long as the rule says (45 minutes in most challenges).
- Two workouts are two sessions. One 90-minute session does not count as two 45-minute ones. In 75 Tough the second must also start at least three hours after the first ended.
- Outdoors. When a rule asks for an outdoor workout, Heartwood uses what the recording app said. If it said nothing, Heartwood asks you once: "Was this outdoors?"
- A late sync. Apple Watch workouts sometimes arrive late. Yesterday stays open until today ends, so a workout that arrives the next morning still counts for its day.
You can always open the rule and add a session by hand, or tap "Mark as done by hand".
I forgot to log something yesterday
Heartwood never fails a day at midnight. The next day, Today shows a card: "Yesterday is still open". Tap "Finish yesterday", fill in what is missing, and the day seals. This works until today ends. Days before yesterday are closed.
What happens when I miss a day?
- Strict (75 Tough as it comes): the attempt ends. It stays in your grove as a stump with its rings and photos, and you start again at Day 1, today or tomorrow.
- Flexible: the day becomes a pale ring that does not count, and the end moves one day later. A challenge that ends on a date (Winter Arc) keeps its date.
You choose strict or flexible when you set a challenge up, with "Adjust". A strict challenge does not pause, but it can be switched to flexible.
When does a day end?
At midnight on your iPhone's own clock, or at 1, 2 or 3 am if you set that in Settings under "Units and the day". Travelling across time zones never skips or repeats a day, and setting the clock back does not reopen a finished day.
Where are my photos?
Inside Heartwood on your iPhone, not in your photo library. You find them in the History tab. They are part of your iPhone's own backup, so they move with you to a new iPhone when you restore it. With "Lock photos with Face ID" on in Settings, they stay covered until you unlock them.
The widget shows a different number than the app
A widget cannot ask Apple Health. It shows the rules that are already checked off and the amounts you logged in Heartwood. Water, steps and workouts that come from Apple Health are added when you next open the app. Water you add with the widget's button is saved to Apple Health the next time you open Heartwood.
How do I add a widget?
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Heartwood. The small widget (today's ring) is free. The medium widget and the Lock Screen widgets are part of Heartwood Plus.
What is free, and what is Heartwood Plus?
Free for good: every ready-made challenge and adjusting it, one challenge at a time, all Apple Health proof, water, photos with yesterday's outline, the ring, tree and grove, pause, reminders, share cards, the timelapse when you finish, the small widget and backup.
Heartwood Plus adds building your own challenges, a second challenge at the same time, the medium and Lock Screen widgets, a timelapse at any point, cards without the wordmark, photo compare, Day 1 as the camera's outline, and three more trees.
How do I restore my purchase?
Tap "Restore purchases" in the paywall, or in Settings under Heartwood Plus. Use the same Apple Account you bought Heartwood Plus with.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and pick Heartwood. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Plus ends, everything you built stays and keeps running.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
Restoring your new iPhone from a backup of the old one brings everything along, photos included. You can also use Settings, "Export backup": it writes one file with your challenges and every day's record, and "Import backup" on the other iPhone reads it. That file holds no photos and no Apple Health samples.
Is Heartwood connected to an official challenge program?
No. Heartwood is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any challenge program. Demanding programs are not for everyone. Check with a doctor first.
